O2 help Age UK connect families at Christmas

The company have teamed up with three local Age UK charities - Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland, Age UK Blackburn with Darwen and Age Cymru Gwent - to identify grandparents who will be alone on 25 December and didn’t have the tech knowledge, equipment or confidence to make video calls to their families and as well as donating devices to them, they’ve also go their O2 Gurus on hand to support the organisations to help the recipients get set up and feel comfortable with their new kit.

Gladis Peter was given a brand new tablet in order to stay in touch with her family on Christmas Day.

She said: “I was very excited to receive the tablet in time for Christmas and it will certainly be life changing in terms of helping me stay in touch with my family in future”

The generous gesture came after O2 found that nearly 8 in 10 (79%) grandparents wish they had the confidence to use tech to communicate with their grandchildren, and 38% of grandparents admitted that seeing their grandchildren virtually would mean as much to them as seeing them in person given the current circumstances.

Nina Bibby, CMO, at O2 says: “Many are facing the very real prospect that we may not be able to be in the same room as our loved ones this Christmas. This can be daunting, especially for those who lack confidence and knowledge around technology to keep in touch virtually.

“By partnering with Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland, Age UK Blackburn with Darwen and Age Cymru Gwent and extending the great work they do to keep older generations connected, we hope to help those who can’t be with their loved ones in person to have the opportunity to keep in touch with them digitally over Christmas.”
