Beer enthusiasts are seeking funding to develop a 'smart' beer mug, which will light up with the colours of your favourite football team and order you a cab home if you've had too much to drink.

A new way to enjoy your pint

A new way to enjoy your pint

"We took something that almost everyone uses and we connected it to the Internet," wrote Xtreme Tech on its Kickstarter campaign page. "We love sports, we love beer and we love technology so, with sports and beer hard to improve on, we came up with the idea of vastly improving the typical boring beer mug."

The ePint will be paired with a smartphone, which will allow users to add their own customisations. If you're watching a football game, the mug will light up in your team's colours when they score a goal, and the ePint uses a weight sensor to keep track of its contents, warning the user that it's time for a top up with flashing LED lights.

The mug features a built-in bottle opener and drinking games, a "recovery feature" that will tell you how much water and exercise you need after your night of indulgence, and it can be linked with a taxi app to automatically call a cab at the end of the night. It features built-in social media connectivity, and is also waterproof and dishwasher safe.

The mugs will sell for £40, but early backers can get their mug for half the price by pledging on Kickstarter. The Los-Angeles based team have set their funding target at $50,000 (£33,000), and hope to have the mugs ready to go by April 2016.
