Google's mobile operating system, Android, has received an update and will be rolling out to new devices. The first handsets to get the update will be Google's Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player. The new Nexus phones will ship with Marshmallow pre-installed.
The new operating system comes with many new enhancements and features. A new permissions model will see permissions being requested as and when they are needed, rather than at the installation process. A new Direct Sharing feature has been added, where users will be able to share content with their contacts within an app, as well make use of an app search bar and A-Z indexing in the app drawer.
To allow for faster file transfer, Marshmallow supports the USB-C platform natively. This will also increase the charging time dramatically for devices equipped with a USB-C port.
Android's product manager, Jamal Eason said: "Since the launch of the M Developer Preview at Google I/O in May, we've enjoyed all of your participation and feedback. Today with the final Developer Preview update, we're introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow."
