The new NFL season has kicked off and is already throwing up a great many surprises, but it appears that early favorites, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, still lead the way in sports betting. This is perhaps somewhat surprising as neither of these two sides has started the season all that well.
This season, Patrick Mahomes was touted as a likely NFL MVP winner, having won that honor in 2018, but the Chiefs have suffered two defeats in their first three games. Similarly, the Buccaneers haven’t exactly crushed it, though it’s worth noting that veteran superstar Tom Brady has been in awesome form.
When it comes to drawing up other potential Super Bowl bets, it’s worth making good use of the sidelines.io sports betting comparison service. Here you’ll see the other teams who have odds worth pursuing in the NFL championship race. Given that the odds are shifting after every result, it’s imperative to keep a close eye on the most up-to-date betting.
LA Rams (+800)
Sean McKay’s side was an outside bet before the season started but a 3-0 record has got them pushing upwards in the NFL odds. The pairing of Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp has been very effective, and it’s the kind of duo that helps push an average roster towards being one that can really challenge.
One slight drawback is the fact that the Arizona Cardinals, also 3-0, are fighting the Rams hard in the NFC West.
Green Bay Packers (+1400)
Aaron Rodgers provided a great deal of fodder for journalists over the offseason, with his ‘will he/won’t he’ leave saga seemingly being endless. However, the star quarterback remains at Lambeau Field and has already shown great form in this, his 17th season at the organization.
They’ve started solidly enough, with a 2-1 record, and can certainly take it up a gear and the odds available on Matt LeFleur’s side going all the way are simply too good to pass up.
Carolina Panthers (+5000)
Yes, clearly, this is the mother of all longshots. The Carolina Panthers have been in the doldrums in recent years (suffering three successive losing seasons prior to this one), but they’ve come out of the blocks with incredible style. Matt Rhule’s side started with a narrow win over the New York Jets (19-14) before blowing past the New Orleans Saints (26-7) and then defeated the Houston Texans on the road (24-9).
Admittedly they do face some very tricky opponents in the coming weeks, but at (+5000), no one said this bet was going to be easy.
Or You Could Keep It Safe
When it comes to sports betting, clearly, the favorites are the favorites for a reason. Betting on either Kansas or Tampa Bay won’t make you rich, but they could end up earning you a decent payout. Other options include siding with the Buffalo Bills, who have been in or around the frontrunners in the Super Bowl betting for months.
Another option lies with the San Francisco 49ers, but they sit in the NFC West, which causes issues in terms of reaching the postseason picture.
You could choose to wait it out a couple more weeks before lining up your big NFL futures bet, but be aware that the big bets will become less and less palatable as the season wears on.
