Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O'Neil were joined by 150 guests at the christening of their newborn son Nicolas Paul Gustaf near Stockholm.

The service was also broadcast live on Sweden's STV, in stark contrast to the private baptisms of Britain's Prince George and Princess Charlotte, where no cameras were allowed inside the chapel.

Prince Nicolas was quietly content when he first arrived at the church of Drottingholm Palace for the service at midday but appeared less than impressed when his mother handed him over to his godparents and later Archbishop Antje Jackelen.

However, Nicolas was not the only one proving a handful as his older sister Leonore, 20 months, wriggled in Madeleine's arms while her brother cried his eyes out.

Prince Nicolas will also be known as the Duke of Angermanland, while his sister is the Duchess of Gotland.

The four-month-old boy is the first grandson of King Carl XVI Gustaf and is sixth in line to the Swedish throne.
