Britain's Queen Elizabeth invited Sarah Ferguson to spend the weekend with her in Balmoral.
The Duchess of York has been accepted back into the royal family for the first time since her divorce from ex-husband Prince Andrew in 2006 after she was asked to stay in the main castle at the Queen's Scottish retreat with Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.
A source told The Express newspaper: "It's just like old times. The Duchess is being treated as if she and the Duke were still married."
The 53-year-old royal has been shunned by the senior royals for years and was even excluded from the family gatherings, despite maintaining a strong friendship with her former spouse.
Sarah stayed at Balmoral in 2005 and again in 2008, but on both those occasions she was not allowed to stay in the main castle with relatives such as Prince Charles and Prince Philip - who previously described her as "odd" - even though the Monarch always got along with her ex-daughter-in-law.
According to The Express newspaper, Prince Andrew was only allowed to take the Duchess to Balmoral on the condition that she leaves before Prince Philip arrives today (12.08.13).
A source explained; "The fact that the Duchess was coming explains why Prince Philip isn't arriving until Monday. He just won't be under the same roof as her and has never forgiven her for the scandals which ripped the monarchy apart in the Nineties."
