Britain's Queen Elizabeth has handed some of her royal duties over to Prince Charles.
The 87-year-old royal has allowed her eldest son - who is the longest heir in British history - to take on more of her physically-draining and demanding official duties, such as foreign tours and investitures.
Prince Charles, 65, will also accompany his mother to the beaches of Normandy later this year, which will mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
Prince William, Prince Harry and William's wife Duchess Catherine will also be taking on more duties this year as the Queen and her husband Prince Philip grow older.
However, royal aides claimed yesterday that the monarch is far from retiring and will focus on "behind the scenes" duties from now on.
A Palace aide told the Daily Mail newspaper: "The Queen is not shutting up shop. She is still the Queen and is still incredibly busy. It's the constant, daily work of being head of state that takes up so much of her time."
Meanwhile, royal aides are expected to announce this week that Prince Charles' media team has been merged with the Queen's.
