Queen Elizabeth and Duchess Camilla

Queen Elizabeth and Duchess Camilla

People lined the streets of Brixton in London yesterday (29.10.13) to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth.

The British monarch smiled from her luxurious burgundy-coloured Bentley as she was driven through the inner city streets - accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall - to visit the Ebony Horse Club and Community Riding Centre.

The 87-year-old monarch has long been a fan of horses and continues to ride even in her old age.

Duchess Camilla has supported the centre for a number of years and the royal pair were welcomed with a display by young riders before being introduced to Buddy, an 11-year-old Irish cob.

Cameron Chapman,13, who volunteers at the club, told the BBC: "The Duchess said that Buddy was already her favourite and was a good boy with a good temperament."

The centre was opened in 1996 to give disadvantaged children and teenagers the chance to ride horses.

Cameron added to the Daily Mail newspaper: "I saw them building the centre and came down every day to stand at the gates and bug them. I had never seen a horse before but offered to do the sweeping up, all their odd jobs, anything to be involved.

"Now I am here every spare minute I can. It's really changed my life. There's not a lot to do round here, all my friends hang around on the streets. I'm really surprised she [the Queen] is coming to Brixton. It is full of trouble."

After touring the stables the Queen and Camilla got to watch some of the club's riders in another demonstration which saw them taking a few jumps and demonstrating some basic polo.
