A suspected burglar has been arrested at Buckingham Palace.
The intruder is said to have climbed a fence and broke into Queen Elizabeth II's official London home and was discovered inside one of the building's state chambers full of priceless artifacts.
According to reports in The Sun newspaper, the man set off motion sensors and dozens of police and security rushed to the scene before arresting him on suspicion of burglary, trespass and criminal damage to a door.
A second man was also held on suspicion of burglary before both were interrogated extensively and bailed, while full full background checks being conducted.
Although no member of the British royal family were at home at the time of the break-in last Monday (02.09.13), there is a full investigation to ensure their safety.
An insider revealed: "This breach of security is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
"There are many red faces at the fact that a man jumped over the gates and gained access unchallenged.
"This individual was deep inside the palace. The queen has been informed about the intrusion and an investigation will set out to ensure that this never happens again."
A spokesman from Scotland Yard has confirmed the arrests, noting enquiries will continue.
They said: "Police arrested two men following an incident in the vicinity of Buckingham Palace at approximately 22.20 hours on Monday, 2 September.
"Both men have been bailed to return to a central London police station and enquiries continue.
"A review of the specific circumstances of this incident has been carried out."
