Britain's Queen Elizabeth hosted her first garden party of the summer yesterday (21.05.14).
The British monarch welcomed members of the public into her London residence Buckingham Palace yesterday afternoon (21.05.14), as she was joined by her husband the Duke of Edinburgh and her granddaughter Princess Beatrice for her first garden party of the season.
The 88-year-old royal kept with her traditional pastel colour palette in a lilac suit and, along with Prince Philip - who recently underwent a minor medical procedure on his right hand and was wearing a bandage during the party - was given a warm welcome to the event.
Guests began queuing up outside of the palace in London's west End at around 3pm in anticipation of the feast that had been laid out for them in the gardens.
The lucky attendees nibbled on finger sandwiches, slices of fruitcake and strawberry tarts while sipping cups of the Queen's special blend of tea.
The party was kicked-off with the national anthem, played by one of two military bands, who provided the music for the occasion.
Invitees, who are usually those who have contributed to charities, were also able to explore the usually private gardens of the palace.
Her Majesty hosts at least three garden parties at Buckingham Palace each year, with an additional event at her Scottish residence Holyrood House.
