Princess Diana's suitor James Gilbey has got married.
The former admirer of the late British royal, who nicknamed her 'squidgy' during intimate telephone conversations which were leaked, has tied the knot with Lavinia Hadsley-Chaplin.
James, who featured on the 1992 'Squidgygate' tapes, previously said marriage was not on his agenda and he is one of the few admirers of the Princess of Wales who has not spoken about his relationship with the royal.
A source close to the newly-weds told the Daily Telegraph: "They are both delighted. Lavinia seems to have won him round."
James, a former Lotus car dealer, married in London during a ceremony on Tuesday (14.01.14).
Lavinia, a mother of five, previously described him as "very kind and extremely charming", adding: "As it happens, he doesn't have a nickname for me."
Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris aged 36 and during an inquest into her death in 2008, protection officer Ken Wharfe said the tapes, featuring James calling her 'squidgy' 53 times, were recorded by the British intelligence agency GCHQ.
During the chats, the royal spoke about her life being like EastEnders and expressed concern that she might be pregnant.
It is thought James and the princess were close in 1989 and the tapes had existed for a few years before they were leaked.
The recordings were passed on to the media after members of the royal family were bugged by the security services, reportedly to protect them against the IRA.
