Britain's Prince George is to travel to Australia on his first royal tour.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - who welcomed their first child into the world three weeks ago - are planning on taking the tiny tot Down Under next year, as did his own parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles did with him the year after he was born.

Speaking to Max and Maxine Davies at the Anglesey Show in Anglesey, north Wales, he said: "George is doing really well, thank you. We are all very hopeful of coming to Australia next year."

The royal baby looks set to embark on his first holiday later this month as he joins Queen Elizabeth at her Balmoral estate in Scotland, along with William and Kate.

Royal correspondent Robert Jobson said previously: "After being in the spotlight, they'll be looking forward to this period of relaxation."

He added the royal couple are expected to enjoy time away to relax "fishing" or having "barbecues", while Prince William's late mother Princess Diana used to take him to a hotel swimming pool, so he could do the same for his son.

Robert explained: "Wills will carry little George in a papoose and take him walking through the Highlands. The family will go fishing and have barbecues by the river.

"There's also a little hotel off-site with a swimming pool Princess Diana took her boys to, so George may even take his first swim."
