Princess Cristina

Spain's Princess Cristina has been summoned to testify in court in an embezzlement case.

The youngest daughter of King Juan Carlos of Spain is scheduled to appear in court in Palma de Mallorca on March 8 due to alleged tax evasion and money laundering offences which are linked with her husband, Inaki Urdangarin, and surround a firm called Aizoon which she co-owns.

In the summons Judge Jose Castro insisted there is enough evidence to summon the princess.

Inaki is already under investigation in the Noos case where he and businessman Diego Torres, who ran a non-profit sports organisation, Noos Institute, were accused of embezzling six million euros in public funds through the organisation which he headed from 2004 to 2006.

This is the second time the princess has been asked to testify in court and the news is the latest blow to the royal family's reputation.

The BBC report "It is believed to be the first time a direct relative of the king will appear in court accused of wrongdoing."
