Britain's Princess Anne has become the first Royal to visit the Etihad Campus in east Manchester since the Queen during the Commonwealth Games in 2002.
On this occasion, the Royal visited Manchester City's Foundation, City in the Community, which strives to tackle social problems in the local area.
Among those the 64-year-old Princess greeted was former Private Mike Swindells, 27, from Wythenshawe, who helped highlight the club's disability programmes.
He said: "Getting involved with City in the Community has had an immense impact on my life. I'm now the captain of the disabled team and help mentor new participants come to terms with their own disability.
"It has made me realise that yes, I may be disabled, but that doesn't mean I can't do all of the things I loved doing before.
"The opportunity to meet a member of the Royal Family is something that only happens once in a lifetime and it is a great honour for me."
Swindells was injured while on a routine patrol in Helmand province in Afghanistan .
Since returning home, he has become a key part of the Club's 'One City' disability project.
