Princess Anne

Britain's Princess Anne visited South Tyneside yesterday (22.01.14).

The 63-year-old royal kicked off her tour of the borough in North East England at 10:30am when she stopped by family-run butchers Dicksons, in Tyne Dock, to celebrate their 60th anniversary.

She then met the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside, Coun Ernest Gibson and Patricia Ridley, and Martin Swales, the chief executive of South Tyneside Council.

The Princess then travelled towards the Mission to Seafarers' newly refurbished building at Holborn House, Mill Dam, where she was given a tour before officially declaring them open.

Princess Anne - the daughter of Queen Elizabeth - finished the day by visiting the new Marsden Road Health and Wellbeing Centre in Horsley Hill, where she was given a tour of the newly refurbished GP surgery, before sitting down to enjoy afternoon tea with some guests.

Coun Iain Malcolm, leader of South Tyneside Council, told the Shields Gazette newspaper previously: "We are delighted that The Princess Royal will be coming to South Tyneside to officially open our new health and wellbeing centre.

"To have a member of the Royal family perform the opening is a great honour and celebrates the achievements of all those involved in this very exciting project.

"It will be a day to remember for the local community."
