Britain's Princess Anne has adopted a horse.
The 63-year-old royal has moved the 14-year-old Welsh cob pony named Annie into her Gloucestershire estate after her previous owners could no longer look after her due to their change in circumstances.
The princess - who is the president of the World Horse Welfare charity - fell in love with her new companion at an event in Somerset earlier this year and she can't wait for Annie to settle to her new 730-acre home, where she can go hacking and round up sheep.
Anne is quoted by the Express newspaper as saying: "I wanted a reliable horse that I could get on and off easily. Annie has a good temperament and I thought it was silly to look for something else when I've got the space here to rehome her.
"I hope Annie enjoys it here with me. We will be doing some hacking and she will be helping me herd the sheep and cattle. I'm just really glad World Horse Welfare didn't find somebody else for her."
The Princess Royal - who is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip - has urged members of the public to help rescue horses as she fears more and more of them are being neglected and abandoned.
