Britain's Princess Anne has urged the public to rescue horses.
The 63-year-old royal has spoken out about the positives of becoming an owner of the beautiful species as she fears more and more of them are being neglected and abandoned.
Speaking in an interview with ITV's 'Daybreak', she said: "With rehoming, you know much more about the animal - that must be the biggest advantage because you have got people who have worked with them and had them for long enough.
"If you know what their physical limitations are, if there are any, if you know if they have any quirks, all of that is stuff that you don't normally get."
The Princess - who has always had a love for equestrian - was left sickened after the charity, which she is president for, warned that an estimated 7,000 horses are at risk of abandonment and neglect.
She said: "You can do a lot of awful lot good by taking a horse from rehoming, and I hope more people will at least find out what is involved because sometimes it may not be as difficult as they think."
Animal welfare charities are concerned horses are being bred in large numbers, which is leading to them being sold off at markets for as little as £5, and then being left in fields to fend for themselves.
