Princess Anne begins her visit to Argentina today (06.09.13).
Anne - whose official title is Princess Royal - will be the first senior member of the Royal family to attend a South American country for 14 years.
According to the Daily Star newspaper Buckingham Palace confirmed she is visiting as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The princess is to spend five days in the country's capital Buenos Aires where members of the IOC will be deciding the host city for the 2020 summer Olympics and Paralympics, which will follow the 2016 games hosted by Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The three countries who are in the running for the prestigious opportunity are Istanbul, Tokyo and Madrid.
Anne's visit comes at a time when there are increasing tensions between Britain and Argentina over oil exploration off the Falklands and issues regarding Argentina's support for Spain over the dispute with Britain over Gibraltar.
The princess's brother, Prince Charles, visited Argentina in 1999, which is is believed to have been the last trip to the country by a senior member of the Royal family.
