Prince William has voiced his support for Aston Villa

The 42-year-old prince took to social media to voice his support for Aston Villa, prior to their 3-0 victory over the Swiss side Young Boys on Tuesday (17.09.24).

William - who is a life-long fan of the English soccer team - wrote on X: "The last time @AVFCOfficial won in the top European competition, it was the month before I was born. Let’s hope tonight is the first step towards another European adventure! (sic)"

The prince also expressed his support and sympathy for the family and friends of Gary Shaw, the former Villa player who died on Monday, aged 63.

William continued: "My thoughts this evening are also with Villa legend Gary Shaw’s friends and family following his passing yesterday.

In May, William took to the micro-blogging platform after Villa secured qualification for this season's Champions League campaign.

The future monarch hailed the impact of Villa coach Unai Emery, noting that he'd led the Midlands team to a "historic season and an amazing achievement".

William wrote on X at the time: "We are Champions League! A historic season and an amazing achievement. Thanks to Unai, the whole squad and everyone at @AVFCOfficial. Can't wait for next season. #UTV! W (sic)"

Meanwhile, in July, William heaped praise on Villa star Ollie Watkins after his last-minute goal against the Netherlands took England through to the Euro 2024 final.

The prince expressed his delight on social media after Watkins' dramatic goal secured a 2-1 win for the Three Lions, thereby sealing their place in the Euro final.

He said: "What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England!"
