Britain's Prince William should mix with "ordinary students" at Cambridge University, Mary Beard has said.
The historian - who is the Professor of Classics at the prestigious institution - hopes the young royal who begins a 10-week agriculture course at one of the UK's top university's today (07.01.14) will spend time mingling with other students who come from less privileged backgrounds than himself.
She told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I very much hope that he will take the opportunity to meet some of our more 'ordinary' students, struggling with making ends meet, worried about careers, future and debt."
During his time on the course William will learn about the issues facing the UK's rural communities and the farming industry and is expected to attend lectures and meetings during the period where he will be taught by academics from across the educational establishment.
The intensive course, organised by the Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership, will help prepare William for when he inherits the Duchy of Cornwall estate from his father, Prince Charles.
