The Duke of Cambridge will head to the Yattendon Estate in Thatcham, Berkshire, south east England, for the event with his wife Duchess Catherine's parents Michael and Carole Middleton, and her sister Pippa Middleton and fiancé James Matthews.

A royal insider told the Daily Express newspaper: "William did not want to want to shoot at Sandringham so Carole has negotiated a deal to shoot at the Yattendon Estate on Boxing Day.

"Special concessions have been made in light of Carole's royal connections.

"Pippa has also had a hand in organising it all as she will also be taking part with her husband to be."

The shoot is expected to cost the royals more than £9,000 as it is priced at £39 a bird plus tax to gun down a minimum of 200 pheasant and partridge.

Wills and his in-laws will get started around 9am and finish up about 4pm with a drink at the nearby Royal Oak pub.

In between, the royals will take a break for a sausage sandwich around 11am followed by a catered lunch.

William, Catherine and their two children, Prince George, three, and 19-month-old Princess Charlotte, will spend part of the festive period with the Middletons at their £5 million Manor in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Prince Philip traditionally runs a Boxing Day shoot on Queen Elizabeth's Sandringham estate.
