Catherine and Prince William

Britain's Prince William and Catherine are using a bullet-proof Bentley for official engagements.

The £250,000 luxury vehicle, named The Flying Spur, is one of the world's fastest saloon cars, with a top speed of 200mph.

A Kensington Palace spokesman told the Daily Mail newspaper: "The Bentley is being leased by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry for official engagements, which is no different to any other member of the Royal Family."

The couple were first photographed in the Bentley last week as they arrived for a reception at the Natural History Museum in London.

Safety features on the car include bullet-proof windows and super-hardened steel to protect the couple, who may also travel with five-month-old son Prince George.

The car costs £118 to fill up with petrol and the couple have opted for quilted leather seats which heat up and have a massage function.

It is a common arrangement for cars to be privately leased for the Royal Family and Bentley gifted the Queen with her state limousine to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002.

The cost of the Bentley is being met by the Duchy of Cornwall, which funds the official work of Prince Charles and his family.

Prince William and Catherine also reportedly use a Jaguar for low-key events and have a fleet of Range Rovers. They are also used by Prince Harry.
