Britain's Prince William showed off his soccer skills at an historic Buckingham Palace football match on Monday (07.10.13).
The 31-year-old royal donned a pair of England player Wayne Rooney's orange boots during a practice kick-around with Royal Household staff, where he was put through his paces by former Liverpool striker Michael Owen.
William - who is President of the Football Association (FA) - was hosting the first official game of football between two Sunday League amateur sides at the royal residence in celebration of the FA's 150th anniversary.
On the main pitch Polytechnic FC, formed in 1875, beat Civil Service FC - the only remaining club from the 11 that founded the FA in 1863 - to a 2-1 win, largely thanks to Bojan Jelovac, who made history by scoring the first ever goal on the Palace lawn.
Sarajevo-born Borjan told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "A few of the boys were getting a bit nervous when we were warming up, they were much quieter than usual. I was a little bit shocked when I scored.
"I was thinking, 'Oh my God, I've just scored at the Palace!' Before the match a few people had asked me how I would celebrate if I scored, and I said I'd bow to Prince William, so I was running round trying to see where he was, but I couldn't see him so I just bowed to the crowd."
The players were given the royal treatment by uniformed footmen who brought out water, orange slices and Mars bars on silver platters at half-time.
Before the game, the duke gave medals to 150 "grassroots heroes", nominated by their county FAs, including the country's oldest referee, 87-year-old Harry Hardy.
Meanwhile, William posed for photographs with Civil Service FC and the losing side presented him with two T-shirts for his three-month-old son, Prince George.
The avid Aston Villa fan joked: "I could be your star striker!"
