Britain's Prince William "didn't really plan" his proposal to Duchess Catherine.
The Duke of Cambridge popped the question to the Duchess - who was known as Kate Middleton before the pair tied the knot in 2011 -while they were holidaying in Kenya in 2010 because he has a deep connection with Africa and wanted it to "mean something".
Speaking in ITV's new documentary 'New Father, New Hope', he said:"I didn't really plan it that far in advance, like I just knew I wanted it to feel comfortable where I did it and I wanted it to mean something, other than just the act of getting engaged. She understands what it means to me being in Africa, and my love of conservation."
However, William admits he was concerned about misplacing his late mother Princess Diana's Sapphire engagement ring during the trip so he clung on to it everywhere he went.
He explained: "I literally would not let it go. Everywhere I went I was keeping hold of it because I knew this thing, if it disappeared I would be in a lot of trouble.
"You hear a lot of horror stories about proposing and things going horribly wrong it went really, really well and I was really pleased she said yes."
The royal couple welcomed their first child Prince George into the world on July 22.
