Prince Philip

Prince Philip has cancelled an appearance in Newquay in August.

The 92-year-old royal has pulled out of a visit to the Newquay Rowing Club in the small parish town in Cornwall as he recovers from his recent exploratory surgery.

Philip, who was released from the London Clinic hospital on Monday (17.06.13) after 11 nights, will now spend two months convalescing at home and royal aides informed club owner John Cuthill that the prince is no longer able to commit to the engagement as a result, according to ThisIsCornwall.co.uk.

John is quoted as saying: "It's a shame it had to be cancelled but these things happen."

John explained he was informed about the royal visit in November 2012 and had spent months planning the visit.

He added: "The plan was that he would come and meet the crews here and then a flotilla would row out towards a naval war ship. He was going to go out in a catamaran and the rowers would then turn and face the harbour with their paddles raised in his honour."

Prince Philip was admitted to hospital on June 6 for a pre-arranged procedure, but Buckingham Palace has yet to disclose what the royal was treated for.
