Prince Philip is "getting better" after undergoing abdominal surgery last week.
The Duke of Edinburgh - who turned 92 earlier this week - is preparing to spend his seventh night at the London Clinic in Harley Street following his operation, but the Prince of Wales insists his father is on the road to recovery.
When asked how the duke is getting on, he replied: "He's getting better, thank you so much."
The Countess of Wessex - the wife of Philip's son Prince Edward - paid the duke a visit in hospital yesterday (11.06.13) carrying what appeared to be a cool bag, suggesting she brought the royal some food to snack on.
Philip was admitted to hospital last Thursday (06.06.13) ahead of his scheduled laparotomy, which was carried out under general anesthetic on Friday (07.06.13).
It is not known why he had the operation - which was scheduled after a routine health check-up discovered something unusual - but the results are due back later this week.
He is expected to remain in hospital for two weeks and then will spend two months at Buckingham Palace recuperating.
