The real Prince Harry

The real Prince Harry

Prince Harry doppelganger Matthew Hicks was mistaken for the British royal while promoting his new reality show 'I Wanna Marry Harry' in Memphis, Tennessee.

Matthew Hicks, who stars in upcoming reality show 'I Wanna Marry Harry', caused chaos among the female population when he visited the city to promote his new TV programme, the very same weekend the real Harry was stateside for his friend Guy Pelly's wedding.

The 24-year-old Brit duped members of the public at tourist hotspots including Beale Street and the Lorraine Motel as they flocked to get their picture taken with him, believing him to be the 29-year-old royal heir.

Matthew - who shares the same red hair, posh accent and cheeky smile as Harry - has been struggling with the moral implications of conning people while filming 'The Bachelor' style programme, which sees 12 American women competing to win the supposed prince's hand in marriage.

He told My Fox Memphis: "I honestly hate the deception part. I just, I feel really guilty. It's quite scary. I'm genuinely glad I'm not an actual celebrity because it would be absolutely terrifying."

The doppelganger spent weeks swotting up on Harry's past, including his military training, schooling, scandals and former girlfriends, but insists he never explicitly claimed to be the royal.

He said: "Subtle hints were dropped here and there and they were left to come to their own conclusions and I had to play the part."

Asked whether he had found love on the show, Matthew teased: "That's a big word. Maybe."
