Britain's Prince Harry was forced out of the South Pole due to a major Antarctic storm.
The 29-year-old royal, and his Walking with the Wounded team mates, departed Novolazerevskaya Station in Antarctica on Wednesday (18.12.13) for Cape Town in South Africa.
The teams, including 'True Blood' star Alexander Skarsgard and 'The Wire's' Dominic West, were due to arrive back in the UK on December 23 after the 208-mile trek in time for Christmas but had to leave a week early.
Expedition director Ed Parker said ahead of their departure: "Now on a very blustery, very snowy day, with a blizzard coming, we are about to fly out to, well we are about to be dragged out on the back of a skidoo to our Aleutian aircraft.
"That Aleutian aircraft will be flying us back to Cape Town, where we have a few days of decompression before returning home to our loved ones."
Ed also praised the support Prince Harry and the two teams had receive since embarking on the challenge, he said: "We understand that the charity has been raising lots of money from our efforts, which it is ultimately all about, that and making people aware of how extraordinary our wounded men and women are and how they are able to challenge themselves in the future."
Prince Harry looked rugged, having grown a beard on the trip, as the teams headed into the airport.
