Prince Harry

Prince Harry

Britain's Prince Harry is to make his first official visit to Australia next month, it has been confirmed.

The 29-year-old royal - who is popular in the Commonwealth nation - will take a short trip Down Under where he will attend a number of events held to mark the centenary of the arrival of the Royal Australian Navy's first fleet into Sydney Harbour in 1913. The naval display will feature around 40 warships, 16 ships and 8,000 naval staff from 19 different nations.

The prince - who last visited the country in 2003 during a gap year where he worked on a ranch in the outback - will join the country's new prime minister Tony Abbott and the Queen Elizabeth's representative in Australia, Quentin Bryce, as they watch events on the water before Harry goes on to visit Perth.

Abbott confirmed the visit earlier today (23.09.13), before adding: "Australians have great warmth towards members of the royal family."

Kensington Palace will release more details about Harry's visit Down Under in due course.

The trip will be held from October 3 to October 11.
