Prince Harry at Royal Ascot

Britain's Prince Harry attended Royal Ascot for the first time yesterday (17.06.14).

The 29-year-old royal arrived at the horse racing meet in the lead carriage of the procession alongside his grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and uncle Prince Andrew, and young racegoers were delighted to see him in attendance.

Lauren Cooper, 18, of Southampton, said: "We love Prince Harry."

Her friend Jess Soares, also 18, added: "It's great that he's here."

The lead carriage was followed by a second containing Harry's father Prince Charles and his wife Duchess Camilla, as well as Andrew's daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, and a third carrying Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were in the third.

The fourth carriage in the procession contained Princess Margaret's son Viscount Linley and his wife Serena.

Though not a part of the procession, Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Phillips, and Prince Edward and wife Countess Sophie were also spotted in the Royal Box watching the day's racing.

Horse racing fan the queen wrote of her passion for the sport in a foreword to the official programme.

She wrote: "Royal Ascot is one of Britain's finest sporting events and it always gives me and my family great pleasure to attend."

She went on to thank well-wishers for their messages of support following her horse Estimate's win in the Gold Cup last year - her first victory in the prestigious race.
