Prince Harry departs for South Pole Allied Challenge 2013

Britain's Prince Harry's Antarctic expedition has been delayed by 24 hours.

The 29-year-old royal and his Walking With The Wounded teammates were due to leave for the South Pole on Monday (18.11.13), but were forced to stay overnight in Cape Town, South Africa because of poor weather conditions.

Harry and the other members of UK Team Glenfiddich competing in the South Pole Allied Challenge 2013 will have to wait until the weather picks up to continue their journey to Antarctica's Novo Airbase.

Once there, they will begin acclimatising their bodies to the extreme conditions before beginning the 208-mile race across the South Pole one day later than planned, on November 30.

Harry and his British teammates, all of whom were seriously injured in Afghanistan, have been preparing intensely for the challenge. In September, they spent 24 hours in an ice chamber to practice setting up camp in sub-zero temperatures and battling speeds up to 45 miles per hours.

The kind-hearted prince is hoping to raise funds for Walking With the Wounded, a charity he patrons that provides rehabilitation services for military veterans.

Harry will be competing against 'True Blood' star Alexander Skarsgard, who will head the US team, and 'The Wire' actor Dominic West, who is part of the Commonwealth team.
