Prince Harry

Prince Harry was a target for the Taliban while he was serving in Afghanistan.

A commander for the rebel leaders has revealed they saw the British royal as a "common soldier" and tried to "capture him" on a number of occasions.

Qari Nasrullah told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "When your prince came here and flew his Apache helicopter and bombarded the majahideen [self-proclaimed holy warriors] it meant that our fighters did not exactly have a soft spot for him.

"As far as the majahideen were concerned he was just an ordinary solider who was fighting for America. This is how we view him.

"He may well be a prince in Britain, but to us he is merely a common soldier ... There were many plans to capture him but - maybe it was his good luck - he managed to escape."

Prince Harry has spoken in the past about an attack on Camp Bastion which took place on his birthday, September 15, within days of his arrival in Afghanistan.

He previously said: "Obviously the papers back home were like 'This is all against me'. No-one really knows yet.

"But either way, this camp is in the middle of Afghanistan and it should be expected to be attacked at any point... and it was on my birthday, so it was a bit of a reality check."
