Prince Harry

Britain's Prince Harry took to the skies as part of an Army attack helicopter display yesterday (09.06.13).

The 28-year-old royal joined the Apache Attack Helicopter Display Team at the RAF Cosford Air Show at the annual event in Shropshire, West Midlands, to put on a show for a crowd of around 50,000 guests.

Harry, whose Army title is Captain Wales, was part of the RAF's 662 Squadron of the Army Air Corps (AAC) and was selected to demonstrate his skills with the specialist helicopter.

The prince grew familiar with the aircraft after flying it during his five-month tour of Afghanistan, which he returned from in January.

Lieutenant Colonel Tim de la Rue said Harry was "delighted" when asked to take part in the impressive display.

Rue said: "The display team, unlike some other display teams, is not a permanent assignment; rather it is drawn from a pool of suitably qualified and experienced, operationally ready, Apache aircrew and ground crew, and uses aircraft drawn from the operational Apache Squadrons.

"This year the pool of display aircrew has been drawn from 662 Squadron AAC which has recently returned from a very successful operational tour of Afghanistan.

"Today's aerial display crew was Staff Sergeant Jamie Boakes, as pilot, and Captain Phil Wilson and Captain Wales as the two front seat co-pilot gunners; all of whom are delighted to have been selected for their respective roles this summer."
