The pair will accompany their mother and father, Prince William and Duchess Catherine, on their tour of the North American country later this month, and while it hasn't been confirmed when the youngsters will make a public appearance, the event at Government House in Victoria on September 29 is a possibility.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson told the Daily Express newspaper: "This is a great opportunity for them to introduce their children to a major realm before things like schools make it difficult later on."

George, three, and 16-month-old Charlotte will be based in Government House along with their parents throughout the week-long tour so should they attend the kids party they won't have long to travel.

The youngsters are expected to have at least one public "play date" during the excursion.

The tour will mark the first time Charlotte has been on a worldwide royal visit with her parents.

George did so in 2014 when he accompanied William and Catherine, who are both 34, to New Zealand and Australia.

The prince attended a children's Government House event in Wellington, New Zealand, so he would be no stranger to such an activity in Canada, where his parents visited in 2011.

William and Catherine's tour will begin on September 24 in Victoria and see them visit Vancouver and Bella Bella among other destinations.
