Prince Charles

Britain's Prince Charles joked he "didn't go well" with orange yesterday (12.06.14).

The 65-year-old prince - clad in a grey wool suit - posed with models on a brightly-coloured wool sofa in the Clarence House garden to mark five years since he began the Campaign for Wool, an initiative to educate consumers about the benefits of buying natural products instead of synthetic substitutes.

He asked models Marcele dal Cortivo and Diana Khalitova "Is it comfortable?" before sitting down for a photograph.

He then said: "I don't think I go very well with orange."

Charles had hoped to set fire to both wool and synthetic material to prove natural products are more flame-resistant and retardant but the demonstration had to be called off because of a firefighters strike.

Instead, guests watched films of the flame tests, and Charles buried a woolen sweater alongside a synthetic one in the garden, and plans to unearth them in October to show the natural fibres degrade but the mad-made ones don't.

Charles said: "I am pretty sure we will discover that wool does no damage to the earth, simply replenishes it, whereas the masses of synthetic material we put in the ground simply stays there and eventually leeches many damaging chemicals."
