Prince Charles

Britain's Prince Charles is to meet some of the emergency services workers who helped victims of the recent Glasgow helicopter crash.

The 65-year-old royal will visit the Scottish city today (06.12.13), where he will chat to some of the rescuers involved in the horrific incident when a helicopter smashed into the roof of the busy Clutha bar, which had more than 100 people inside it, last Friday (29.11.13) killing nine people.

A short statement on the website of the Prince of Wales - who is known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland - and the Duchess of Cornwall said: "The Duke of Rothesay will visit Glasgow to meet emergency service personnel and others involved in the response to the helicopter crash in Glasgow city centre last Friday.

"His Royal Highness will also sign the Book of Condolence at the City Chambers."

Earlier this week, Scottish actor Billy Connolly laid a bouquet of flowers at the crash scene and then declared he was "very proud to be a Glaswegian" as the city has "risen to the occasion" in a tough time.

He said: "It's very sad but it means quite a lot to me. I have played in all of these pubs. The Clutha was a good music pub. They didn't mind banjo players, which makes a change," he said.

"I had many happy times in there. Glasgow has really risen to the occasion. I have never heard so many nice things about Glasgow.

"I had to do something; I couldn't just let it pass though I have never done anything like this before. Everybody's talking about how well Glasgow coped. I was very, very proud to be a Glaswegian."
