Prince Charles

Britain's Prince Charles has been criticised for 'planting moles' in key government positions.

The heir to the throne has come under fire after it emerged that two aides under his employ have been working in Whitehall departments which are linked to his interests.

According to The Sunday Times newspaper, one employee spent two years working at the Cabinet Office, while another was seconded to work at environment and food ministry, Defra, for 14 months.

British MPs now worry that Charles could have influenced the appointments and are expected to raise the matter in the House of Commons.

One minister said: "There are questions that need to be answered about who agreed it. I think it's undemocratic.

"It raises questions about whether Prince Charles is exceeding his position as a constitutional monarch in waiting. There is a question about what they are doing and whether they are influencing policy."

It's thought secondments between different government positions are not uncommon, but these moves are usually made with transparency.

Paul Flynn, Labour MP for Newport West, expressed concern about Prince Charles' "political neutrality" in light of the revelations.

He told The Guardian newspaper: "Planting his civil service moles proves intention to abandon royal political neutrality."
