Louis Smith has joked he could have inspired the name of the royal baby.
The Olympic gymnast says he could have played a part in the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's decision to name their baby son Prince George Alexander Louis, following his birth last Monday (22.07.13)
The 24-year-old sportsman admitted he feels "proud" to share part of his name with the son of Prince William and Catherine - formerly known as Kate Middleton - who watched the gymnast during the London 2012 Games.
Louis told the Daily Star newspaper: "Everyone keeps messaging me about Prince George. I am proud and quite pleased he has my name in there. Someone said ages ago my name was in the shortlist. It's cool."
He added: "I know Kate came and watched me at the Olympics. Perhaps I was the inspiration, you never know."
The gymnast - who went onto to win both bronze and silver medals for Great Britain at the Games last summer - is among other celebrities such as X Factor's Louis Walsh and One Direction star Louis Tomlinson who also share names with the young prince.
'Strictly Come Dancing' winner Louis said: "There was an article in the paper after the birth about 10 famous people called Louis and I made a little bit in there. That's all right, isn't it?"
