Julia Samuel is "proud" to have been made one of Prince George's godparents.
The 54 year old, one of Prince William's late mother Princess Diana's closest friends after they met at a dinner in 1987, admits she sees the role as an "important responsibility" but is delighted to have been asked to be one of three-month-old royal's seven godparents.
She told MailOnline: "I am delighted to have been invited to become godmother to His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
"It is both a joyful and an important responsibility which I am incredibly proud to accept."
George was baptised at the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in London yesterday (23.10.13) and royal aides revealed he didn't make a sound during the ceremony, which was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and attended by 23 guests.
One aide said: "He went in smiling, came out smiling and, as far as we are aware, smiled throughout."
Julia was named as one of six godparents for George yesterday ahead of his christening.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also chose William's cousin Zara Phillips, Oliver Baker - a university friend from St Andrews in Scotland - David Jardine-Patterson, who attended Marlborough college with the duchess, and Earl Grosvenor, the son of the Duke of Westminster.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, William and Duchess Catherine's private secretary from 2005 to 2012, was also named as a godparent, as was William van Cutsem, a childhood friend of the duke.
