Princess Diana

Princess Diana

The first trailer for the 'Diana' biopic has been released.

The late British royal - who is played by Naomi Watts - is shown in a montage of clips with her heart surgeon lover Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews) in the two-minute trailer.

Speaking to a friend in the footage, Diana - who died in a car crash in 1997 - says: "He doesn't treat me like a princess. It's almost like he doesn't know who I am."

The trailer also features clips of the pair enjoying the early stages of their relationship, during which Hasnat was said to have struggled to deal with the press.

He says: "If I marry you, I have to marry the whole world too."

The clips mark the end of the former couple's relationship and goes on to show Diana getting together with Dodi Al Fayed - who is played by Cas Anvar - but he is not shown as the late royal's last serious love interest.

The movie - which documents the last two year's of the princess' life - features Juliet Stevenson as Sonia, a character who is an amalgam of Diana's friends, and Douglas Hodge as Paul Burrell, the princess' butler.

The highly anticipated release is directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel with a screenplay by playwright Stephen Jeffreys.
