Queen Maxima

The Dutch royal family are spending Christmas in Argentina.

King Willem-Alexander and his wife Queen Maxima have flown from the Netherlands along with their three daughters Catherina-Amalia, Ariane and Alexia to enjoy the festive season in South America, reports Hello! Magazine.

It is believed the family - who were pictured at Myrtle Forest, near Villa La Angostura, before walking along the Nahuel Huapi lake close to their residence - are visiting the Argentinian-born Queen's ill father, who is suffering with leukaemia.

It is the third time in recent months the 43-year-old royal has flown out to Argentina to visit her 86-year-old dad, Jorge Zorreguieta, after a fleeting visit in November.

She also travelled over in September to celebrate her mother's birthday

The family spent the festive period in Argentina in 2012, but opted to stay in the Netherlands last year as Willem-Alexander had recently been crowned king.

Queen Maxima's father, Jorge - who worked as Minister of Agriculture under former Argentine president and dictator Rafael Videla for two years - was prohibited from attending his daughter's wedding to King Willem-Alexander, 47, in 2002, due to his role during the oppressive regime.
