The Dutch and Belgian kings have been nominated to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Belgium's King Philip were put forward to have freezing cold water poured over their heads to raise awareness for nerve cell disease Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The craze is currently sweeping the world with several celebrities taking part, but neither of the European royals have acknowledged their nomination.

DJ Martin Garrix put forward his fellow countryman Willem as well as singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and music producer Dillon Francis.

For his Ice Bucket Challenge, the 17-year-old music mixer got buried up to his neck in sand before having water poured over his head.

TV and radio presenter Sven Ornelis was the talk of Belgium after he nominated their king to take on the freezing cold water test.

Several other stars have also taken on the challenge including David Beckham who had a bucket of ice cold water poured over his head while topless.

The former footballer then nominated basketball legends Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan in return as well as Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Justin Bieber provoked a comical reaction when he challenged US President Barack Obama to do the charity challenge.
