Prince Philip

Britain's Duke of Edinburgh has attended his first public engagement since being hospitalised in June.

Prince Philip - who hasn't been seen for more than two months - appeared to be "on the ball" as he handed out medals at the Royal Society of Edinburgh to Professor Sir John Cadogan, Professor Michael Ferguson and Sir Ian Wood on Monday (12.08.13).

When handing out the medals to the recipients, he joked: "I wish to God I could understand what they'd been doing!"

Professor Mike Ferguson said the Duke was "on the ball as usual and everyone was absolutely delighted to see him".

Professor Sir John Cadogan added: "The man's on fire, he's great. I'm no doctor, but he looks great."

The 92-year-old royal spent 11 nights in hospital in London following pre-arranged abdominal surgery before leaving the clinic to recuperate at home.

He said: "It's now quite a long list since I've been doing this. But it's a great pleasure to be back in circulation again."

Philip will now join the Queen at her Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, for the summer.
