Duchess of Cambridge

The church where the Duchess of Cambridge was christened may be closed down and sold.

Parishioners expressed concern after learning St Andrews Church in Bradfield, Berkshire- which saw the christening of Duchess Catherine in 1982 - were in early talks to sell the historic building to the nearby Bradfield College earlier this month.

According to BBC News, Rev Julian Gadsby expressed sadness over the church's closure before explaining the site was too large for the congregation and expensive to heat.

In turn they are considering plans to build a new church in Bradfield Southend in a bid to attract the young growing population in the area.

Locals feared the plans to sell the Grade II listed building would leave them unable to visit their loved ones at gravesides on the site but access to the churchyard will not be restricted while Bradfield College offered reassurance that the church's historic links will be looked after.

A sale is yet to be made, but a statement from Bradfield College said: "It has been agreed in principle that the college could provide a good long-term future for St Andrew's Church, especially as the college has historic links with the church and already uses it for religious services."
