Prince William and Duchess Catherine's time in Anglesey is hoping to be commemorated with a newly built special garden.

MP Albert Owen believes the royal couple - who lived on the island after their grand wedding in 2011 - have helped boost their tourism industry and is hoping to build a garden to make sure their legacy lives on.

He said: "A designed garden of celebration could be established on the Island so that tourists could come and visit year on year."

The pair began married life on the island which is located on the north west coast of Wales.

Albert explained to the dailypost.co.uk: "Prince William chose to come to RAF Valley and to live on the Island, both he and his then bride to be, Kate Middleton had their first joint engagement with the launch of an RNLI lifeboat at Trearddur Bay and chose to start their married life on Anglesey.

"Whatever people's views on the Royal Family there is no doubt the association has boosted the recognition factor of the Isle of Anglesey as a tourist destination. The attention of the world has been focussed on the island; even the cynical media has portrayed the island in a positive light."

Duchess Catherine - known as Kate Middleton before she married into the royal family - made her first public appearance since the birth of Prince George in Anglesey on Friday (30.08.13).

She joined William as he officially started a 135 mile round-the-island marathon.
