Britons are expected to spend £240 million to celebrate the birth of the royal baby.

Royal enthusiasts have been tipped to spend millions on champagne, memorabilia and party food when Duchess Catherine gives birth to her first child with Prince William next month, according to experts.

Financial experts estimate that a staggering £62 million will be spent on champagne or sparkling wine to toast the birth of the royal baby, while an additional £25 million is expected to be splashed out for celebratory snacks including cakes, finger sandwiches and more.

Retail chains have already begun stocking royal-themed baby clothes and accessories in time for the birth. Mothercare has announced a range of regal baby grows and romper suits as well as a pram which will be designed to look like horse-drawn carriage.

Duchess Catherine's parents Michael and Carole Middleton are also stocking baby-themed favours at their party planning business and soon-to-be grandfather Prince Charles' Highgrove shop also has baby leather shoes and children's flatcaps on offer.

Buckingham Palace is expected to launch its own range of official baby clothing through its online store after Catherine gives birth, with the proceeds benefiting the maintenance of the royal estates.
