Duchess Camilla

Britain's Duchess Camilla welcomed troops home from Afghanistan in a parade yesterday (09.12.13).

The 66-year-old royal was on hand in Salisbury, Wiltshire, south west England, to cheer on the 4th Battalion of the Rifles as they paraded and accepted medals for their dedication to the British military.

The battalion returned home from a six-month tour of Afghanistan in October and they clearly enjoyed their homecoming parade as they did two laps around the city centre, according to local newspaper, the Western Daily Press.

Duchess Camilla, who is the battalion's royal colonel, met with the troops and handed them medals after the parade. She also spent time with soldiers' friends and family.

Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Tom Bewick hailed the occasion as "magnificent".

He added: "The Rifles have been looking forward to the homecoming parade and we always receive a magnificent response from the city of Salisbury."

Salisbury mayor Penny Brown said: "We are delighted to welcome home the 4 Rifles following their successful deployment in Afghanistan, as the Rifles have the freedom of the city."
