Britain's Duchess of Cambridge spent the weekend with her mother in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Duchess Catherine - who is pregnant with her first child with Prince William - is expecting to welcome the royal baby into the world any day now, but chose to leave Kensington Palace in London to spend some quiet time resting with her mother, Carole Middleton, by her side.

Police cars were spotted guarding the £4.7 million mansion as they prepared themselves to escort the Duchess Catherine to St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, which is where she will go if she goes into labour.

A royal insider told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Being back at home in Bucklebury is the one place where Kate can truly relax, especially with all the building work going on at Kensington Palace. She knows her mum will take good care of her and William can also rest assured that she's in safe hands.

"Kate is very family orientated so it is only natural that she would want to spend as much time as possible with her parents before the baby arrives."

It is thought the couple want to spend the first six weeks after the baby's birth in Berkshire with Catherine's parents instead of at a royal residence, but Prince William's childhood bodyguard Ken Wharfe believes that's a risky move.

He said previously: "Kate's baby could be in danger. Given the political state of the world and the vulnerability of the royals, they need a lot of protection. In this terror-ridden world of ours, there's a real risk of kidnap for this child.

"The world is a much more dangerous place than it was 20 years ago, when we would take William and Harry out. And even then, there was a large protection team with the sole responsibility of looking after them. There are going to be people in every conceivable tree and bolthole, waiting for their baby to be pushed out in a pram."
