Britain's Queen Elizabeth loves watching marathons.
The 89-year-old royal can't get enough of the sport and once left her guests to enjoy breakfast on their own as she caught up on a race, New Zealand politician Chris Laidlaw has revealed.
Speaking to a Commonwealth history project, he shared: "We were shown down to one of the state rooms and the Queen comes out very casually dressed. She said, 'The breakfast is all over there, there's a big breakfast bar, there's stronger drinks there if you're so inclined. I'm going to watch the marathon, because I love watching the marathon.'
"She said, 'Help yourselves, freedom of the ship, stay as long as you like' and with that she switched on the television set and she chatted away. It was extraordinary."
Queen Elizabeth is known for her love of sports, particularly horse racing, but suffered a disappointing blow earlier this year when her horses failed to win at Royal Ascot.
Joined by husband Prince Philip, children Princess Anne and Prince Edward, and daughter-in-law Countess Sophie, her royal highness watched on as Ring of Truth only took seventh place and Touchline finished in third place.
