Britain's Duchess Catherine has cancelled her first official solo overseas visit due to morning sickness.
The 32-year-old - who was known as Kate Middleton prior to her marriage to Prince William - has been suffering with severe morning sickness for a prolonged period of time, and it's been decided that she's not well enough to attend her planned engagements on the island, which is celebrating the anniversary of its independence.
''The visit itinerary remains unchanged.''
In a statement, Kensington Palace said: ''The Duchess of Cambridge will no longer visit Malta this weekend. The Duke of Cambridge [Prince William] will undertake the visit instead.
''Her Royal Highness continues to suffer from the effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum. The decision not to travel was taken by the Duke and Duchess on the advice of the Duchess's doctors."
The statement added: "The Duke is honoured to represent Her Majesty The Queen on the visit, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Malta's independence.
''The visit itinerary remains unchanged.''
Due to her ongoing health troubles, the Duchess of Cambridge is to decide whether she does or doesn't attend her planned engagements on a case by case basis, it has been confirmed.
